The Little Stork Island

The Molsheim Stork Park, located on the Alsace Wine Route about twenty kilometers from Strasbourg, offers a fun and educational experience for all ages. This site was created to preserve a local tradition: once numerous on the city's rooftops, stork nests had nearly disappeared. In the 1960s, about twenty stork chicks were gifted by Léopold Sédar Senghor, then President of Senegal, to his friend Eugène Ferrenbach, former owner of the Cheval Blanc hotel-restaurant. The municipality then decided to set up a park along the canal, opposite the former Coulaux factory, to house these birds and encourage their return to the region.

Today, the storks in the enclosure are convalescing and will be released back into the wild once recovered. Meanwhile, they attract other birds that settle on the artificial nests installed by the town. The park is set in a generous natural environment, where the Bruche river and its surroundings provide abundant food. It is not uncommon to see these birds hunting along the bike path behind the campsite, notably on EuroVelo route no. 5.

The park is freely accessible all year round, allowing visitors to discover these majestic birds without restriction.
