The Oak Monument by Gloria Friedmann

In the heart of a forest, just a few hundred meters from the iconic Gros Chêne site, stands the Oak Monument, a creation by contemporary German artist Gloria Friedmann. The work is part of an artistic trail composed of seven steles. Each bears a short text inviting reflection on our relationship with the tree and nature.

At the end of this contemplative walk, the visitor suddenly discovers the sculpted oak: a black trunk, stripped of its branches, set against a backdrop of intense red wall.

This final confrontation, between death and life, is central to the artist's message. As Paul Guérin notes, the work appears "like a blaze frozen by some magic," offering an experience that is both visual and symbolic.
