The Old City Hall, called Neubau

The Neubau, built in 1585 to house shops and part of the municipal administration, is the oldest Renaissance building in Strasbourg. The only visible remnant from the 16th century, its façade stretches over three levels with classical proportions, featuring superimposed ancient orders.

After the destruction of the Pfalz in 1781, the former residence of the Magistrate and Councils, the Neubau briefly served as the City Hall.

Destroyed by revolutionaries in 1793, it was rebuilt and has housed the Chamber of Commerce since 1808, a function it still serves today.
