The Porte de Pierre

The Porte de Pierre is a remarkable natural monument, a pink sandstone monolith located in the heart of the forest within the Donon massif. This fascinating site attracts many hikers seeking a moment of contemplation and tranquility in this place charged with energy, accessible after sometimes a long walk through the surrounding woods.

This spectacular rock consists of three pillars topped by a lintel, forming an imposing double gate 5 meters high and 7 meters wide. Sculpted by erosion from rain, wind, and frost, it stands at an altitude of 858 meters.

Around this geological site, two large menhirs now lying down and cup-marked stones can be found, remnants that likely evoke the Celtic presence in the region. These elements raise questions about the significance of this place for ancient inhabitants: could it have been a symbolic entrance to a forbidden or sacred territory?

A very pleasant hike awaits visitors wishing to explore this mysterious site and its surroundings.
