The Pottery of Soufflenheim

Perched on the edge of the Haguenau forest, Soufflenheim owes its international fame to its pottery heritage, a tradition dating back to the Bronze Age.

Today, about fifteen workshops continue these ancestral skills through precise techniques: wheel throwing, slip coating, barolet decoration, and glazing.

Iconic Alsace pieces, such as kougelhopf, baeckeoffe, or sauerkraut dishes, are still shaped and served in Soufflenheim earthenware. The potteries also offer a wide range of decorative objects with varied colors and patterns.

Workshop visits, including demonstrations of wheel throwing and decoration, are available by reservation.

To explore the village from a unique perspective, the walking circuit "The Potters' Tour" invites visitors to discover its secrets and unsuspected details in two hours over 3.5 km.

Cycling enthusiasts can choose an extended version through the forest. A playful walk, punctuated with riddles, is specially designed for children from age 4, with routes adapted for teens and families.

Sports lovers are also catered for: several cycling routes cross Soufflenheim, such as the Rhénan (40 km), Henri Loux (14 km), or Goethe (27 km). Three mountain biking trails of varying difficulty also start from the village towards the Haguenau forest.
