The Protestant Temple
The first Protestant temple was built in Haguenau in 1859 or 1860, when the local Protestant community was still very small. This building now serves as the parish hall.
After the 1870-1871 war, the city’s garrison grew significantly with the arrival of several thousand soldiers, mostly Prussian and Lutheran. The military administration then decided to build a new, much larger neo-Gothic building under the direction of military architect Hertlein.
After World War I, in 1918, this building was granted to the Protestant parish free of charge.
