The Renaissance Houses of Soultz

Soultz has preserved in its center an urban fabric characteristic of the Renaissance, with the notable exception of the Place de la République, which was redesigned in the 19th century.

Most of the bourgeois houses date from the 16th and 17th centuries, a period spanning from the Peasants' Revolt to the Thirty Years' War.

These homes are distinguished by architectural features such as stair turrets and oriels, reflecting the city's economic prosperity linked to viticulture.

The winegrowers' houses are often arranged around an inner courtyard, while access to outbuildings and cellars is through round-arched porches, often bearing an engraved date.
