The Sainte-Marthe Tower

This wall is part of the second enclosure of the medieval fortifications of Rosheim, built and modified between the late 13th century and the 14th century. It underwent several renovations in the 16th and 17th centuries, likely to strengthen the defense of the nearby castle. The property then belonged to the Count of Salm Reifferscheidt, Governor General of Alsace, at the start of the Thirty Years' War. In 1833, the city sold it to Count François de Brauer, who transformed it into a residence in the 19th century. In the 20th century, it remained a private estate until its acquisition by the city of Rosheim in 1968. The large park of the Sainte-Marthe estate was completely redesigned between 1971 and 1972. Classified as a Historic Monument in 1920 and 1930, it underwent a full restoration by the city between 1993 and 1994.
