The Urbès Tunnel

The Urbès Tunnel, located in the High Vosges of Alsace, is a symbol of historical memory.

Designed to connect two valleys by crossing the Vosges mountains, this ambitious project was abandoned in 1935 for economic reasons.

Shortly after, World War II broke out.

In 1943, Germany took over this unfinished tunnel to install armament factories, before it quickly became one of the 70 subcamps of the Natzwiller-Struthof concentration camp. Today, visitors can discover its entrance and learn more about its past through an educational trail.
