The Village of Friesen and Its Heritage Trail

Perched in the Largue Valley, the village of Friesen charms with its traditional half-timbered architecture. About fifty buildings, constructed between 1497 and 1878, testify to this rich heritage: jettied houses, single-block farms, short-timbered dwellings, forges, and fountains line the preserved streets. Some of these structures are the oldest of their kind in Alsace, showcasing the Sundgau technique, the result of five centuries of expertise by local carpenters.

A guided walk, offered by the Tourist Office, invites visitors to discover this flower-filled village where geraniums and timber framing complement each other. The old farmhouses, carefully renovated, retain their old-world charm while adapting to modern life, offering a scene where tradition and elegance blend harmoniously.
