Thieves' Tower & Winemaker's House
The Thieves' Tower, built at the beginning of the 14th century, was one of Riquewihr's prisons when the town was under Württemberg rule. It served as the seat of manorial justice and today houses remnants of its judicial past. Visitors can explore the torture chamber, equipped with a strappado and a oubliette, as well as the guardroom where interrogations took place. The latter displays a collection of torture instruments, offering a chilling insight into the methods used at the time.
The tower connects to a 16th-century winemaker's house, where visitors enter a kitchen furnished with old utensils, a traditionally furnished bedroom, and a cellar with a wine storage room. These spaces illustrate the daily life of winemakers and coopers, complemented by a video and period tools.
A temporary exhibition titled "1918-1925: Difficult Return of Alsace to France" is also offered, accompanied by a video screening on this theme.
