Town Hall

The current structure of this building dates back to the late 18th century. In 1775, the Cistercian monks of the Pairis Abbey acquired the property located on Rue des Clefs from Jean-Jacques Reiss, then bailiff of Ensisheim and Sainte-Croix-en-Plaine. Under the direction of Braconnot, steward of the abbey, the architect Ritter de Guebwiller was commissioned to rebuild it between 1778 and 1782, in a sober and elegant neoclassical style. Confiscated during the Revolution, the building first served as the seat of the departmental administration in 1790, then housed the prefecture from 1810 to 1866. At that time, the city of Colmar acquired it to install its town hall, a function it still holds today.
