Tram-Trame

Daniel Buren's artistic project for Mulhouse's tram line 1, known as the West-East line, involves installing regular arches at each station except Porte Jeune.

These structures, spaced roughly the length of the tram cars apart, symbolize entry and exit points, reinforcing the idea of continuity along the route. The rectangular-section arches feature differently colored faces on three of their four sides, with each station showcasing a unique palette that transforms each stop into a new visual universe.

On the outer curve of the tracks, five black and white stripes of equal width extend straight along the ground on either side of the arches, evoking the characteristic stripes of the artist.
