Tumulus
About five hundred meters west of the village of Mussig, on the meadows bordering the Ill forest, lies a remarkable group of tumuli.
These funerary monuments, located on both sides of the path connecting Mussig to the Stoll Mill, bear the evocative names of Ried, Flaschland, and Obere-Nachtweide.
The most impressive mounds are found north of the path, in a peaceful setting framed by the Ill dike and a small alder-lined stream, the Brücklisgraben.
On site, one can see circular mounds ranging in height from thirty centimeters to one meter eighty, with diameters between ten and thirty meters. These tumuli, erected between 750 and 450 BC, testify to human occupation during the early Iron Age.
