At the end of the 19th century, Mulhouse industrialists initiated the creation of vocational schools linked to the textile industry. In 1898, the Mulhouse city council expressed the desire to open a "technical school." Inaugurated in 1906, this school was funded jointly by the City, the State, and the Industrial Society. Its mission was to supplement the training of apprentices in the mechanical industry and construction sectors. The architect chose a style inspired by fortified castles for this imposing building, characterized by roofs with varied and steep shapes, as well as asymmetrical windows.
