Unicorn Fountain
The unicorn, a legendary creature over three thousand years old, embodies the emblem of the town of Saverne. According to the people of Saverne, this fabulous animal was chosen to represent the values of purity and courage, symbolizing the city's invincibility.
Another tradition tells that a unicorn dipped its horn into the waters of the Badbrünne fountain, also known as the "bath fountain." Already used by the Romans for therapeutic purposes, this spring then acquired healing properties. Throughout the Middle Ages, many pilgrims and notable visitors to Saverne took some of this water, convinced of its virtues.
Today, the symbol of the unicorn endures in Saverne, notably through the local production of a beer inspired by this legend.
