Vieux-Thann

Vieux-Thann, the oldest commune in the Pays de Thann with its first written mention dating back to the year 991, offers a rich historical heritage. At the heart of the village stands the Saint-Dominique Church, built in the 10th century. This iconic site once served as a meeting point for the weavers of the Seigneurie de Thann, as well as for the Brotherhood of Minstrels of Alsace. Inside, several elements deserve attention: the 15th-century Holy Sepulchre, baroque-style altars, and carefully crafted architectural details. Outside, the statue of the Virgin and Child also draws the eye with its delicacy and charm. However, the church of Saint-Dominique is especially renowned for its stained glass windows. Among them, the one depicting the Tree of Jesse is often cited as the most beautiful stained glass in Alsace, an artistic gem not to be missed during your visit.
