Virgin's Grotto

On August 15, 1914, Barembach was at the heart of an intense battle. Facing the threat of artillery destruction and executions in the church, the villagers turned to the Virgin Mary. They vowed to erect a statue in her honor if France won, if Alsace was freed from Prussian rule, and if their village was spared. Their vow was fulfilled six years later.

On August 15, 1920, the anniversary of the battle, a replica of the Lourdes grotto was inaugurated, which is still visible today. This solemn ceremony marked both the villagers' gratitude and the memory of this painful episode.
