Wahlenheim

Wahlenheim is a charming Alsatian village known for its flowers and peaceful setting north of Strasbourg. It lies within the rich historical and cultural region of Alsace, where the parish church dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary draws visitors' attention.

Inside, the nave and choir are separated by a full-centered diaphragm arch, typical of the region's religious buildings. The nave walls are adorned with statues of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, Saint Aloysius, a Sacred Heart of Jesus, and Saint Anthony, creating a spiritual and artistic atmosphere.

However, the true treasure of this church is its Baroque main altar, the Pietà, carved from oak and gilded in 1741. Originally installed in the church of the Guillemites priory of Marienthal, served by Jesuits, it was gifted in 1781 by Canon Barthle to the parish of Wahlenheim and installed in 1782.
