Wangenbourg Castle

Perched at 480 meters altitude in the picturesque village of Wangenbourg, this medieval castle was built in the 13th century from Vosges sandstone by the lords of Wangen. Erected on a natural rocky spur, it served as a stronghold to protect the region from raiders. Villagers could take refuge there in times of danger, ensuring their safety. To reach it, visitors cross a bridge leading directly to the inner courtyard, where many windows and the remains of an elegant Gothic fireplace can be admired. From this courtyard, a 24-meter climb leads to the keep, rewarded by an exceptional panorama over the Mossig valley. The tower visit is open from April to November, but the castle can be visited freely and for free all year round. Parking is available at the tourist office for easy access.
