Water Table

Born in 1975, Quentin Garel lives and works between Paris and Normandy. Graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 1998, he was also a resident at Casa Velázquez. His artistic universe focuses on sculpture, working with various materials such as bronze, iron, wood, or porcelain. His menagerie, sometimes realistic, sometimes reduced to skeletal form, reveals great technical mastery and a particular sensitivity to animal shapes. Alongside his sculptures, Quentin Garel develops an extensive body of drawings, which serve as the basis for his three-dimensional creations. His exhibitions often combine finished works with preparatory studies, offering insight into his creative process.

The artist regularly receives public and private commissions, such as those from the City of Lille for fountain trophies, or from the Haute-Normandie Region and the Aviva group for installations at the Tour Carpe Diem in La Défense. His works include a wide variety of animals: giraffes, hippos, turtles, frogs, crocodiles, chimpanzees, and ostriches. Quentin Garel also explores skeletal structures, notably through the creation of skulls.

In 2014, he collaborated with the Mutabilis group, specialized in landscape architecture, on two works intended for public spaces. One is located in the Garden of the Tour Carpe Diem, an ecologically designed building, where the artist installed a winter garden composed of large bronze plants with foliage. The other work, titled Water Table, is installed on the Place de La Paix in La Défense. This piece consists of 120 bronze frogs of varying sizes arranged on a steel table. A basin partially fills with water, which spurts from some frogs, while others are sculpted with remarkable detail.
