Wintershouse

Located on the hills of Brumath, Wintershouse is a former imperial village first mentioned in 1187. At the end of the Ancien Régime, it belonged to the lordship of Choiseul-Stainville before becoming a royal village. Its name, derived from the German "der Winter" (winter) and "das Haus" (house), translates to "winter houses," referring to dwellings adapted for the cold season.

With its 907 inhabitants, Wintershouse is a warm village where friendliness reigns. The locals, nicknamed "the crows" ("Ràmme" in Alemannic), cherish the art of gathering to dance, sing, play, or simply share good times. The community also thrives around the Est-Friture company, established since 1979 and nicknamed "the herrings" in reference to its activity.

In November 2016, Wintershouse was awarded the "Commune nature" label with the highest distinction of three dragonflies, highlighting its commitment to the environment and biodiversity.
