Wintzfelden
Wintzfelden is a village located within the municipal boundaries of Soultzmatt. Its name originates from monastic history: it derives from Wingolt, a monk from the Lautenbach monastery who took part in clearing the land. As early as 1255, a local minor noble family already bore this name, as evidenced by Adelaide of Wingoltzwelden at that time.
Between the late 18th century and 1828, a small iron mining operation was active in the area. Located in the Kaltebach valley, behind Thannwiller, this mine supplied the blast furnace at Bitschwiller. However, the operation was abandoned due to the low quality of the ore extracted and especially the high costs associated with transporting it to the factory.
