Workers' Housing Estate
The Mulhouse workers' housing estate is one of the most emblematic achievements of the integration of the working class by the French industrial bourgeoisie.
In 1853, Mulhouse industrialists founded the Mulhouse Society of Workers' Housing Estates, which built around 1,200 homes between 1853 and 1897 for local factory workers.
This project enabled them to become homeowners and, consequently, to settle permanently.
Today, this historic neighborhood has preserved its unique character, marked by a network of small evocatively named alleys and gardens that add to its old-world charm.
