Exhibition: Perspectives on Texunion

Through the eyes of photographer Patrick Baeumlin, discover the final moments of Texunion, the last major textile factory in the Mulhouse region. In 1999, as the Pfastatt factory was about to close after nearly two centuries of history, the photographer was invited to capture this iconic place and those who still kept it alive daily. His images reveal much more than an industrial site: they capture the gestures, glances, machines, and workshops, but above all the deep bonds that unite the workers to their factory, between attachment, pride, anger, and nostalgia. This sensitive and human testimony captures the last months of a flagship of Alsatian textile printing at a key moment in its history.

Presented for the first time in Mulhouse, this exhibition naturally finds its place at the Museum of Printed Textiles. When Texunion closed in 2001, the museum preserved the company's archives: sample books, drawings, and textile pieces representing more than three million patterns. The exhibition thus offers a complementary and moving perspective on this exceptional heritage.

Photographer, author, and traveler, Patrick Baeumlin has developed for several decades a body of work attentive to the women, men, and territories he encounters. His work on Texunion now constitutes a rare and precious testimony to the industrial memory of the Mulhouse basin and the history of a know-how that has marked the identity of an entire region.
