Bartholdi High School

The Bartholdi High School is located on the Oberhof, a Carolingian estate that is the origin of Colmar. This site housed the Benedictine priory of Saint Peter before hosting, in the 18th century, the city's first school established by the Jesuits. After the dissolution of the Society of Jesus in 1764, the institution became a royal college. It was during this period that the assembly hall and the library, two neoclassical style elements designed by architect Pierre Michel d’Ixnard between 1785 and 1787, were built.

In 1791, it was renamed the national college, then waited until 1856 and the Second Empire to obtain the status of high school.

Finally, in 1919, the institution was renamed Bartholdi High School in honor of the illustrious native of Colmar.
