Farming Settlement
Built from 1941 under the initiative of the German government, the Marckolsheim farming settlement embodies an ambitious architectural and social project linked to the reconstruction program of the "New Order" communes.
This program aimed to apply Nazi theories focused on modernization, functionality, and the reorganization of rural society.
The settlement features three types of housing: small Arbeiter Wohnhäuser for workers, medium-sized farms for agricultural operators, and large Erbhöfe, hereditary farms designed to be passed down through generations. A symbol of this era, this neighborhood represents a remarkable example of rural constructions inspired by the New Order in Alsace, while also serving as a propaganda tool for the regime.
