Jewish Cemetery

Niederrœdern is notable for its particularly rich Jewish heritage.

In 1849, the town had 311 Jewish residents, representing a quarter of its total population.

Their presence was marked by the construction of a first synagogue in 1785, which was deemed too small.

A new synagogue was therefore built in 1869, but it was unfortunately destroyed in January 1945 during American bombings.

Before the establishment of the local cemetery in 1878, the Jewish deceased of Niederrœdern were buried in Trimbach until 1875.
