La Metzig - Former Grand Butcher Shop

La Metzig is a former Renaissance-style butcher shop located on the Town Hall Square in Molsheim, Alsace. Built from 1525 by the butchers' guild, it once housed a slaughterhouse, a sales area, and a meeting space. Considered the most emblematic building of this style in Molsheim, the structure stands out for its harmonious architecture and refined details.

The vaulted arcade on the ground floor contrasts with the first floor, marked by balconies with balustrades. The main façade is enhanced by a double staircase leading to a bulbous turret topped with a jacquemart clock, installed in 1607. Two stone cherubs animate this clock by striking the hours. Higher up, a niche houses a statue of the Virgin and Child.

Inside, the first floor reveals a majestic hall with colonnades, showcasing the architectural expertise of the era.
