Old Geispolsheim
Geispolsheim is a charming Alsatian village that has preserved the spirit of a rural town. Its streets, notably Général-de-Gaulle, Sainte-Jeanne-d’Arc, and Maréchal-Leclerc, are lined with large half-timbered farms mainly from the 18th and 19th centuries. These homes, with their typical regional lines, offer a remarkable architectural display with facades adorned with wooden galleries and corner beams sometimes engraved with inscriptions. One of the oldest houses in the Alsace plain, located at 19 rue des Moines, dates back to the 15th century. Its uniqueness lies in its four corner posts joined in a single line from base to roof, an architectural technique that appears elsewhere only from the mid-16th century. A walk through this village reveals a preserved heritage where every building tells part of the local history.
