Pharmacy of the Tower / Former Town Hall of Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines Alsace

On Keufer Square, this Renaissance building with two elegant turrets was erected during that period. It successively housed the headquarters of the local mining administration as well as the town hall of Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines. In the central turret, a block of silver-bearing galena is embedded in the stone. It commemorates the exceptional discovery, at the end of the 16th century, of a pure silver block weighing 600 kg, a significant event in the mining history of the region.
