Place de la République
To the left of the pharmacy stands the Hôtel du Préteur Royal, a building steeped in history.
After the Thirty Years' War, Haguenau, once a free city of the Holy Roman Empire, came under French rule. The king then installed a representative there to defend his interests in the region. Later, after the French Revolution, the building took on a new role: it successively housed the town hall and then the city’s district court.
This iconic site, located on a central square, is now the venue for Haguenau’s main cultural and folk events. These include the Hop Festival, the Humor of Notes, and the Christmas Market, which regularly enliven the city.
