Saint Martin Circle
Founded in 1880 and revived in 1890 by Father Etienne Frey, the Saint-Martin Circle in Colmar aimed to provide cultural leisure activities for men, promote physical exercise, and support youth development.
In 1895, architect François-Xavier Kreyer completed its new headquarters, an impressive 72-meter-long building. This structure elegantly combines neo-Romanesque and neo-Gothic styles, reflecting the period's taste for historicist architecture.
During the interwar period, the Saint-Martin Circle hosted most of the city's major cultural and sporting events. It also became a favored meeting place for clergy members and the city council, who regularly gathered there to exchange ideas. After World War II, the association gradually lost its influence and prominence in Colmar society.
